    Some Travel Advice

    Hi all,

Am going for a trip down south next week with the Missus,

That being from Perth to Busselton to Margaret River and Back with about 4 sleeps to be had down that way.

Renting a holiday unit in Busselton as a base for some adventuring.

I have a choice of 2 vehicles, a Hyundai Excell or a LWB Soft top 1969 2a Ex Military Landrover.

No prizes for guessing my prefered vehicle, however I would appreciate any advice on Pros and Cons of the Landy in terms practicality and possible problems of a slow vehicle on the big highways.

    any thoughts ?

    J

WA drivers are so slow that a landie won't be a problem.

The landie will allow you to go off the beaten track - like taking the back roads to Nannup.

Also - you can do some of the Cape-Cape track.

    Have fun!!!

Each to his own. Some people would not be happy in anything other than a Lexus or a Rolls Royce.
Other like me are perfectly happy to cross Australia diagonally from the South East to the North West corners in a Series III LWB.

My attitude was that in a faster vehicle I would not have gained a true sense of the enormous distances between places in the centre of Australia.
With better suspension, I would not have appreciated how rough some tracks like the Tanami and the Gibb River road can get because of the infrequent maintenance.
In an air conditioned vehicle I would not have noticed the smells of the bush and the dust.
And in a quieter vehicle I would have had to think of interesting things to say to my wife for 16,000 km.

I know which vehicle I would pick.

    1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
    1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.

    The Hyudai will be:
    quieter,
    more fuel efficient,
    have a better radio,
    probably wont leak,
    more comfy,
    faster,

Take the Landy, It'll make you smile

Absolutely everything said above. Just travel at about 75km/h, and enjoy the scenery. If people want to pass, let them. If travelling at night, remember to flash trucks when they overtake you and are safely past.
