    Talking Just purchased TD5

Hi All, I have just purchased a defender 130 td5. Looked at tdIs and thought about the 4db1t option but his was a bargain so could not go past it. But i have some questions.......

#1 It has oil around the turbo outlet that goes to the intercooler. The oil is sitting on the hose only, around the turbo out let.
#2 The coolant resivoir is a brown color and i cant see throught it to check the level. What color are they originally?
#3 It has had a tacho fitted and seems to rev very hard @110 over 3000rpm is this where they usually sit? And if so, it has heaps of power further down it the rev range so would it be better to lower the rpm @ 110?
#4 The turbo whistles very loudly when it is working is this normal?? It has 3 inch exhaust and has been chipped. Sounds like a truck i love it!!!

    Thanks guys

PS I drove the vehicle from melb to Mildura yesterday and it was the most enjoyable trips i have ever had!!

    3. Sounds about right. I think you'll find they're electronically governed to 4500 RPM.

Cheers and congrats on your purchase.

Can't answere the revs as my auto revs lower than a manual. Wistling is probably normal but check the exhast manafold incase of a broken stud.

as edd said check your exhaust manifold

but if its chipped i'd be guessing its a warped manifold

thats where you whistle will be coming from ...........

Thanks hiline, There is no stud broken off. If it was leaking would is see a black stain where the gass were getting out?

And what about the oil around turbo outlet? or is that one of the Landrover standard leaks lol....

try tightening it first it might just be loose

as for the oil coming out the bottom of the turbo
its possible that the owner has tried to fix the warped manifold and hasn't replaced to little pipe properly that comes out the bottom of the turbo
cant remember completely but i think theres a flange that it needs to be seated in..........
