    D3 high speed extended mode

Going home from Beerburrum yesterday I released I was still in extended mode.....doing 80kph
I became aware of this only because I tried the cruise and it wouldn't work. Thinking I'd done some damage during the day I took stock of the controls and realised....

I'd forgotten to switch back from mud ruts to normal mode on the TR. Also, I think the cause (extended mode) was bottoming out in the final climb which caused the car to go to extended mode (ie higher than off road height).

I flicked the TR back to road mode, she dropped down and all was well, cruise back on and off we went like nothing had happened.

No beep, chimes or messages on the display...very strange.

The good book says it should have exited extended mode once I was over 5kph.

I wonder if you it can be done on purpose ?
Some of us have been trying to work out how to hold a higher than standard ride height at speeds over 55kph.........why? Because on a long run on dirt roads the extra clearance would be handy at speeds of 80 to 100 kph.

    Found this :
Australian 4WD Action dedicated to 4WD, 4x4, SUV, Truck, 4 wheel drive and off road community, loaded with tips, tests, reviews, travel, gallery and forum

'We catch up with Gordon, a research scientist from Western Australia with one of the best equipped and standout Disco 3’s in Australia. Back in 2005, 4WD Action crowned the LandRover Discovery 3 as the Best 4WD of 2005, and since then we haven’t found a more capable D3 to take on the tough Australian Outback – until we met Gordon. If you want to know more about Gordon’s modifications, and how you can set up your Disco 3 to be an all round tourer and strong competitor in 4WD events, check out Issue 120 of Australian 4WD Action for Gordon’s contact details.'

Apparently Gorden has found a way to run the Air Suspension 40 mm above Standard - I'm looking for a copy of the mag to get the full article

    He sure is.

Regarding the raised height, it involves modifying or buying modified arms for the height sensors (at least that's one way of doing it). There's loads of info on this on disco3.co.uk

    Driver to insurance company:
See, I was driving down the road and tried to take a corner at the posted speed of 80kph. For some reason the car flipped and it's trashed.....I want you to pay up

    Insurance Co:
Hmmm, you say this is a D3 with air suspension?

    Driver:
Too right...bloody great bit of kit

    Insurance Co:
Hmmmm...were you operating the car at the manufacturer's recommended road height?

    Driver:
    Errr........not quite......

    Insurance Co:
    Errr...tell ya story walking Bud

I have no knowledge of the D3 air susp, actually I have no knowledge of anything except that the D2 will chime three times and automatically return to road height from off-road height (or extended mode) at 40kph.

Wots da book say for the D3, gotta be something similar eh!

Good point re insurance, anything to escape a pay-out.

Yeah, the D3 should ring a bell too, and normally does, but not in this case.
