Problems with new Defender - continued

    My tales of woe continue.

My 07 Defender is with the dealer (carted out on a flatbed, it's 2nd trip the first on the Gibb River ) with the engine management light on. Turns out it is a EGR fault. The local dealers ONLY mech will be back on Friday. I have been looking on other websites and it appears to be a common problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

Anyone want to buy a 07 Fender with a heap of options?

i have heard the egr only having problems when people try to blank them off although blanking them off has sorted other niggley problems

are you serious about selling your car???......

seems a bit extreme considering you only have an egr fault, as for the heat sheilds was it? was talking to my mechanic today he said its a common problem in the defender.but not good it cut through the wire

and your break fluid bottle....they reckon sounds a bit strange for it to do that on the bonet (not saying it hasn't just a bit strange)

i would guess they will just change the EGR.....or test it and clear the fault...
i believe on defende2 the talked about the sensor being set far away which can give it a dicky reading ro something
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Sorry to hear the 'Grim' news - any sign of 'pre-emptive symptoms'
Only ask because the 'Home Office' rang the other day to say 'YOUR Car is playing up' (She's in Mission Beach & I'm at work in the Pilbara)
Say's it started to run rough - very strong diesel smell, She let it idle for a few minutes and headed home / parked up with no problems.
Says no warning lights, no leaks under the bonnet, no Temp Increase, no worries starting since (Now she wont drive it)

Good Luck - Hope things improve

No "pre-emptive symptoms". Just the idiot light and running poorly.

Yes but when we asked you why you sold you just said "the car doesn't suit your needs any more and that the disco suited you better"

what other problems have you had RM? that would make you want to sell the car

it is a new car with a different engine and everyone knows you dont buy one of the first if you dont want to expect problems and quirks....you allow all to be ironed out before you buy!!

    Land Rover ownership requires fortitude.

Eleven years ago I bought a two year old 300 Tdi Disco (one year out of warranty) ...head gasket gone wrong and a bunch of other stuff early.

It doesn't owe me a cent if you value experience good and bad.

Now the second time round I could have taken the safe option and purchased the company commodore as my daily driver...never

Resist the impulse to sell, learn from the bad, remember the good stuff (and use the three year warranty).
