    Seal runner sals pinion.

    Can anyone tell me what seal runner I need to fix a leaking salisbury pinion.Is there any tips I need to know? Thanks Pat

    not sure what you mean by seal runner

    but when a mate of mine helped me with mine we marked the position of the nut with a centre punch, used a rattle gub to undo the nut, replaced the seal but not the crush thingy and than did the nut back up with a rattle gun until the nut went a little past its original position 1/16 of a turn.....maybe not that much

    seems to have worked to date, my local parts supplier suggested this method

    I think he means a speedy sleeve.....

    and I'll back the method youve described if your not replacing the bearings or shaft but I dont advise a rattle gun.....

    Some people call them seal runners,and some call them speedy sleeves.I have replaced the seal but it leaked again within a month so I was going to sleeve the pinion before fitting another seal. Pat

    The speedy sleeve goes on the drive flange, of course, not the pinion, and unless you have the equipment to install it yourself it may be cheaper to get a new flange.

    Hi Pat,

    I just fit new flanges to these. Flange kit comes with seal, flange, fabric thread seal and new locknut.

    Interestingly the new flanges for the Salisbury come with a new type mud slinger to protect the seal. I think that has always been the trouble - getting mud/grit onto seal surface. Part number is the same.

    Correct, all later sals in Td5 Defenders got the decent mudshield, and all the new ones now come with the flange kit. Forgot about this, thanks Bearman.
