Pilot Bearing Size

I am looking at buying a proper clutch aligning tool suitable for a Series clutch. I have an old clutch friction plate to measure the size of the spline from, but I need to know the internal diameter of the pilot bearing. This will be the same as the external diameter of the gearbox input shaft.

Yes good idea but , You can use a input shaft out of a old gearbox for a clutch aligning tool

Plenty of other things one can use such as a 1/2" socket extension with electrical tape wraped around to locate the clutch plate or just use your eye i have been known to use these in the past with no ill effects

Essentially what I wanted to do, was buy a $5 plastic dummy gearbox input shaft. I know what size spine I need to look for, but I need to know what size the external diameter of the end of the shaft needs to be. If anybody has a gearbox that is currently not in a vehicle, could you please measure the diameter of this shaft for me. My gearbox is currently in use, bolted into my vehicle.

7/8" = approx 22mm

the bearing shaft is 22.1mm dia, 27.5 long. And the ext spline is 28.2mm dia.

I would recommend making one from steel, as it is handy to tap with a mallet for fine adjustment when the pressure plate has a touch of tension, before tightening/torquing. If needed i can machine some up.
I use a cut down shaft
