look what I found

can anyone identify the year of this one(or tell me where to look for clues) and the bloke that owns it says "make me an offer". It runs, was in use not that long ago and has only recently been pulled out of the shanty it was parked under( I'm told). any idea on what it is worth ??

It is a series 2 not series 1 by my knowledge of what is what from external features. Series 1 have no curves on the panels other than the front guards and bonnet. The rear tub with the curve and the turret curves suggest to me that it is a series 2.

Unregistered five or six hundred at best.

G'day All, From what I see it's a diesel, most likely a S2A, although I couldn't see from the interior shot, the engine stop cable (you know, early Land Rovers you had to pull a cable to stop the engine, no edic motors in these real L/r's LOL) the grille tells me it's at least a mid to late 60's (unless the grille was just added to make it look better) the chassis & engine number would give you a better idea, and if you can get it for what others deem a fair price and you need it well the balls in your court as they say cheers Dennis

hi all,
I posted this in the S1 section by mistake. (did not know what series it was). after finding it is a S2, I stated I would repost it in S2 area, and it happened all by itself. Thankyou whoever was responcible for that. I have attached a few more pics (but still no numbers yet)

G'day All, and from looking at the pix of the engine bay I would say it's at least a later model in the Series 2A,, 2 1/4lt engine range, as it has the same injectors as fitted to 2 1/4lt engines up to Series 3's, the early injectors for S2 2 litre and early Series 2A 2 1/4lt were very different to those, and yes I could see the engine stop cable it's located under the dash below the speedo, cheers Dennis

Hi Paul , I would offer $300 for starters . if he says no then go up price . always bargain as money saved can be money spent on bits for the new machine .

From the injectors and fuel filters it is a 2.25 engine, and hence a Series 2a, 1961 on. From the combined ignition/light switch and windscreen mounted wiper motor, it is positive earth, and also the steering column mount, it is suffix 'c' 1967 or earlier. But that steering wheel was only fitted from suffix 'c', so assuming that there has been no swapping of bits, it is a suffix 'c' Series 2a, about 1966-7.

Value depends entirely on condition, especially the amount of rust in the bulkhead and chassis, and how abused it has been (the panels look remarkably straight, which is a good sign). I'm guessing a minimum of under $1000 if rust problems (paying for good panels plus scrap only) up to a maximum of $2-3000 if it is really in good condition. Even in this case you will have to repaint it and replace all the rubber bits, almost certainly replace all the brake and clutch hydraulics, and that is before even looking at condition of engine, gearbox, swivels, prop shafts etc.

Mate I just paid $400 for a late 2a 88' petrol. The firewall was in good condition, the panels need some work, and the chassis is pretty tidy except for the crossmembers under the gearbox need work. more from damage than rust.

So looking at what you posted, $500 would not seem unreasonable, but always try for less. You never know. Never worry about insulting someone with a price. It is your money, and they need you to part with it. Check for rust in the chassis and firewall, then use it as a bargaining tool.

Hi Paul, I would tend to agree with Dinty, that it is a 1966/7 model and a Base model diesel ute cab, as it has only 1 windscreen wiper,(from new) it has the later safety feature "dished" rubber type steering wheel which was fitted from 66, and the Aust type 6 cylinder & diesel horizontal bar grille, (but missing the round "Diesel" badge) the speedo reads about 41 thousand miles, and could be the original milage, the plate just below the dash will have the chassis No stamped on it or on that rear spring hanger it should be something like 272********* (RHD Export) or 273******* (RHD Export CKD) as 27series denoted 88" diesel models and as JDNSW posted probably a suffix "C"
