Which Garmin Turn by Turn GPS?

Ok. looking at an early christmas present for a couple of trips in november (on in particular where we need to traverse sydney).

So i'm looking at garmin units because I like the garmin product.

I'm trying to figure out which unit to get. the Nuvi 255 and 260 seem to be the same price, and virtually identical features. does anybody know how to tell them apart?

The Nuvi 250 seems to be the same but without saying street names.

Well, Garmin is the leader of GPS Navigation sys, always.
My suggestion is: Laptop + usb/bluetooth GPS receiver + Garmin Mobile PC software. Here u get much bigger screen, quicker response, and lower price.
u can find lots of GPS receiver for sale on Ebay website, and u could even find the software on the internet for free, maybe.

Sorry, rangie, I mean if u v already got a laptop, why pay extra money for something unnecessary? If u wanna something to play with, u could install a car pc for the same price of a portable GPS unit.

Kinda hard to set up a laptop in a rental car

I'd like the wide screen version, but i'm told our budget won't stretch to it which is a pity. But that's life. the W models are about $100 more. Looks like it will be the 260 at this stage.

u didn't mention anything about "rental car"
In this case, I think the 255 is good enough, I woldn't pay $100 extra just for a wide screen, and soon,u will find that the GPS is nothing more than a toy, if u don't need it for ur job. my mio350 has been sleeping in the drawer for long long time.

Garmin is good, I agree. But don't cut out your options. Tom Tom is classed as the international leader for car navigation. I wouldn't ever switch from Garmin for my bush uses though.

I would put Garmin ahead on robustness. Tom Tom is the market leader but then they aggressively advertise more than the others.

After much research I settled on a Nuvi 760 for our trip in July this year and it worked extremely well. A mate's also bought one and is currently touring the UK with it (got the UK maps as well as the Aus ones), so I'm keen to learn how he got on when he gets back.

I have had about 7 gps units over time, boat, car, etc. I think the garmin units are the quickest for aquiring sats. My current in car one is a garmin320, getting a bit old now.

I got a 310 Nuvi. Very Happy with it. Had it for 3 years now, without any fuss.
