Understand your position Dave, met a French couple who shipped a 110 from Dubai to Perth recently and swore that they would never do it again.
Regarding purchasing in Australia, you shouldn't have too much trouble picking up a suitably equipped 110.
Following is a description of a 1993 110 that just sold for $10500 through our club magazine. And on the other end of the scale there was also a very well equipped 2000 Defender 110 Xtreme with a host of extras including L/R Fuel tanks, water tanks, dual batteries, cross axle diff lock, H/D springs and shocks, drawer system, roof rack etc etc.- sold for $35000.
200TDi 1993 2.5 litre turbo-diesel. Ex-navy 2 door troop carrier, good condition.
150,000 km, gearbox/transfer box recently reconditioned, clutch & rear oil seal replaced.
ARB bull bar and tow bar, Warn winch, extra 40 litre fuel tank, Kaymar swing-way spare carrier, 60 litre water tank, snorkel, dual batteries with isolator, aluminium roof rack. Fitted out with single camping bed/bench and 40 litre Autofridge eutectic refrigerator (original seats all available). 6 road tyres (4 low mileage) on original rims, 4 off-road tyres (low mileage) on disco rims with a spare rim. Overhead rack and rear mount suit HF radio.
It just depends what your budget will accommodate but there are usually quite a few 110's available - possibly even a few more will appear on the market 'at the right price' with the current financial situation.

BTW have you met up with any of the Land Rover enthusiasts from the clubs in Turkey? I believe they are a very friendly bunch.
