Questions from a newbie

Hi, i just bought a 01 model xtreme td5. And love it. I'm actually a jeep man but need more room and i have always loved fenders so it was a logical choice. The bus has done 127000kms and is going very strong. Apart fom a couple of oil leaks and annoying rattles and squeeks that need to be ironed out.

My first question is i'm putting some muddies under it for everyday use and touring. I've got on to some off a mate very cheap. They are 285/75/16's. Will they fit? This bus is standard height truck atm and i do serious off roading and don't want them rubbing.

2nd question is, what is the traction control like? Especially in mud?

Firstly Welcome and you have bought the best real 4x4. These wagons in standard form are the most capable 4x4 I have ever driven.
The 285s wont fit the standard alloys or steel wheels firstly.
Have not seen that wide on a fender but may rub on full lock on the front. I would check that first. They should clear at the back with the right wheels. So you would be up for a new set of wheels which will negate the savings.
Probablly the biggest you could go to on standard rims would be 255/85/16. That is what I will be puttting on mine next and from memory is the biggest allowable on the tyre chart.
Standard with alloys is 235/80/16.
The traction control works fine and I have had no issues with it in sand or mud.

they will scrub especially at the front on lock but it wont be too bad.

It's best to run the 285's with another set of rims with a bigger offset. Steel rims brand new can be had for about $100.00 each. And I reckon the standard Grabbers on the alloys are 235/85 R16.

What's the TC like in mud? Still can't save you with the stock tyres!

they will rub on the front at lock and they will rub on the top rear spring mounts. ask crump

you need at least 30mm better than standard offset rims to loose the rubbing.

Welcome.
Yes they will rub when on full lock but it gives you a nice massage when manuvering in a parking lot.
As for the other points I don't know as mine had custom ofset rims made.

what he said, wind out the lock stops a touch and you will be fine, as for the rear I only scrub on one side and its only the side biters that rub.

Yep do it get your self some D1 rims and cut a new taper in the stud holes so you can run them reversed or beta still have them fliped this will fix your rubbing on the inside tho you may have to trim and widen your flares

The new tyres are on
Around town they don't scrub, even on full lock.
Have lost a bit of power but i may cut the muffler out or turn up the boost.
