Importing a landy from the UK

    G'day

Does anybody have any info on importing a landy from the UK? As in what it costs to ship a landy over and what extra stuff that goes on like customs?

If anybody has a link to importers websites or land rover importer sites i would really appreciate it.

PS i'd be looking at landys SIIa - SIII.

    Thanks, Adon

Whilst I cant help with costs and details for importing (perhaps speak to Reads90 on here for that)... There have been a few recent threads on this subject as well. Having said that, Im currently in the UK and looking at possibly moving out there and bringing my 110DC with me so am also interested in anyones comments.

I can put you in touch with a UK guy who has a MINT condition LWB SIII that up until last month he used for fairly regular (road) trips around Europe. Ive seen the receipt book and the S111, would wholly recommend it if thats what your after. He is a Landy fanatic has just bought an expedition prepared 300Tdi 110.

There's a whole lot of questions that need answering first about what you want, motivations, etc... and as Yorkshire_Jon has pointed out, if you do a search, there are various threads already on this subject.

    Basically, it's not cheap!

However, one thought that comes to mind, if it's a Series vehicle you're after and you're not fussed about the condition, it might be easier & cheaper to bring one of the ex-army ones in from NZ.

Unless you are a POHM emigrating a personal import is almost impossible, and if you can cut through all the red tape very expensive,

To easily import a UK vehicle you must have owned it and used it in the UK for a minimum of 2 years........

I personally wouldn't waste your time or your money.

mmmm why would you want to import a rust bucket Seris from the Uk, that would need a re chassis the minute you got it here. Belive me Aus has some of the best looking and condition Seris trucks i have seen in years.
Next you will be telling me you want to import all the rust bucket RRC from the Uk

But if you really want to waste your money on a shed or want an expensive anchor then here goes. May sound ruff but unless you have been to the Uk and seen how trucks rust then you can't imaging th state of a Seris truck

Due to age you don't need to have owened it for 2 years or lived with it because it is over 15 years old where all the rule don't quite apply. But it will cost you 10 % GST and 10% import duty . And about $3000 to $5000 depending on when you order them to do it and what the rate of the dollar is doing for them to ship it to you

Just the shipping cost will be greater than buying a good series 2 or 3 here - let alone the original cost of the vehicle, customs duties etc etc etc

Granted there are some bloody awful examples. However, there are also some cherished ones that have already been re-chassied and looked after really well. All depends what you want I suppose. Even a mint series will cost top dollar though.

    Hi,
I have just finished going through this. It will be an expensive excercise.
I was quoted 6k to import a P38 into the country. Plus the cost of the vehicle, plus getting it RWC & then going to the RTA for reg etc...
This was an all up figure. I spoke to a few people in the UK. I also chatted to customs & the Vicroads people. In the end it was too hard, too many questions & way too many rules..why, what, when, how long.

I also had a chat with a couple of friends in the UK & they said exactly what Reads has said..RUST! its a big problem so to speak in the UK as they throw salt on the roads in Winter to dissipate the snow. It ends up in chassis & eats them away.

I will wait a little longer for the vehicle i want, but gee its hard not having a Landy

Oh ok.. I will give that thought a miss then.

My plan was to get an old SWB or LWB and modify it and put a short tray on it then chuck a holden 186 in with a different gearbox and higher speed diffs and a set of 33 inch all terrain tyres.. Always loved landys as my dad has had them whilst i was growing up. I'm now 16yo and looking to get my first one ready for when i'm old enough to drive it properly

I will just have to wait untill one pops up over here cheap

Thank you all for your replys. Appreciate it
