						Both the tops of my mud guards and bonnet have checker plate armour attached, by what appears to be a white silicon type glue. Only problem is that I would like to replace these parts with Opposite Lock replacements so that I can fit a bonnet wheel carrier.
Does anyone have any ideas, solutions or stories of how to remove the armour which is fixed down like this? Preferably without stripping or damaging the paint work underneath, but it might come to that.

good luck with that they don't appear to carry that product in perth you have to get the drill out and sort it yourself .....if looking for a spare wheel carrier kit look at: P.A. Blanchard & Co. Spare Wheel Bonnet Kit. 90/110" dunno if you need one but might be worth it looks cheap enough
Ironically, fitting them to a late TD5 Defender is illegal in Australia.
And they stuff the hinges and bonnet on the later models...
Also, its an expensive POS...
Cheaper to throw a carcass on the roofrack....

						Model is one of the first TD5's - 1999 model.
Got a roof rack at the moment but am trying to sell it on eBay at the moment. Dont really want a roof rack, at least at this stage - the tray is for everything to fit.
Who told you that they are illegal?
anything that is not a factory fit is illegal...technically..
the td5's I believe were never brought out with the tyre on the bonnet here there for are not passed for adr

more than that there are laws and regs regarding objects in drivers scope of vision.
Even a gpsr on the dash can be illegal depending on position.
But td5 bonnets aren't suited to the weight of the wheel assembly and will do damage.
For trips needing a spare spare consider a pair of Rola bars - light strong and more useful.

						I was told by a guy at Opposite Lock that it would be best to remove the armour that is on there at the moment then install theirs instead as it covers more of the bonnet, thus spreads the load out more evenly and would do less damage.
Will see what else I can find also...
