I think you've probably answered you own question.

The smell won't leave in a hurry either.

Is not Rat... is Siberian Hampster!!

Seriously I've heard of other cars that develop smelly A/C due to small leaves sitting in the system.

Is it a Puma?? Cause mine does that when I turn the Air-con off ? It's been to the dealers several times and they keep spraying smelly stuff down the vents but that only works for a day Ther're excuse is that to get to the suspected offending part they have to rip half the car apart and they are too big a sooks to do that

    Cheers,

It may be cat p!ss. Cats often go on plugs or vents or anything like that. I used to have problems years ago when one of our cats kept going to the toilet down my car's air vents. The air intake on a Defender is an easy place for them to use since it is on a nice flat surface.

I like cats even less now.

    Aircon smell.

Sounds like what happened at Home Valley Station a year ago. The Cook and I went off down to the Pentecost R. to watch the others fishing and the station manager asked if I had a screwdriver and I did and lent it to him. 10 minutes later he had his answer to the rotten stink..... a dead mouse!
It nearly made them all puke when he turned the aircon on although it couldn't have been dead that long as it hadn't stunk the day before.
I used to think all Tojos smelt like that but mustn't say that now as I've got one as well as the Defender!!!
    Happy sniffing.

    check the drain hose....

run heavy insulated electrical wire through it like a cleaning rod

if it's blocked with leaves etc they will decompose and smell like....

............or have an aircon guy clean it out for you
