    Diesel Injectors

    Has anyone had a go at reconditioning injectors?
    Just wondering how hard it would be or should it be left to people who have the right equipment.

    G'day All, My mate a mechanic reconditioned mine, but he did have access to the testing gear as used by Land Rover dealers in years gone by, me myself I would not touch them, maybe Dave might,, cheers Dennis

    doable, I can but dont unless I have to. you can make em work again with a bit of near enoughs good enough on the side of the road but to do a propoer job you should have a clean room, an injector test bed and calibrating fluid and a stack of shims and stuff to get the adjustment just so.


    at $140 something each new just bite the bullet, buy new ones whack em in keep the best of your oldies for spares but be sure to order spare new seals when you get the new injectors.

    buy the time you buy new nozzles and seats ad $40 a piece take them to a specialist, have him sort them, then refit them theres not much in paying for a rebuild but its something thats worth doing at least once so you know whats in them and how they can fail and what you can do about it on the side of the road.

    Got them dome by a specialist. I think it is the best way since it has to be done only once in a blue moon.

    As Blknight.aus said, it is doable and it is worth knowing how to get them fixed in an emergency by the side of a dirt track, but to get them done properly it is best to leave it to the experts.

    If it is a Tdi, then they are just as cheap to buy new ones as it is to have them serviced I know of at least 2 people who have , on advice, had their Tdi injectors serviced at great expense, only to discover new ones would've been cheaper and a better result as there is very little parts available to repair them properly with AFAIK. I file them away in the big blue 'Collex' cabinet out the front of my workshop and fit new ones.

    BTW, I have several customers with over 350K on 1 set of injectors, still getting sub 10l/100km economy and no driveability/ starting problems at all. They are the ones who changed filters regularly and cleaned sediment bowls etc from when they bought the vehicle NEW.

    Clean fuel = happy injectors.

    The Isuzu Nippondenso or Diesel Kiki ones on the other hand are easily serviced and cheaper than buying new. Mine have never been serviced in 550K and are still going well, no cold starting issues and still getting great economy and power etc. My engine was well looked after and always had regular filters etc from new.

    I didn't know that it was still possible to buy new 2.25 CAV injectors. Where do you get yours from?

    MR automotive in redcliffe, but you can also get them from four wheel drives down in melbourne that I know of.

    the injector isnt a landrover only part and is still available as a new part because of this.

    Its just not available in a landrover box.


    the nozzle and seat configuration is in a couple of other injector setups as well so even when they do stop making the injector you will still be able to get parts for your existing ones.
