Squeaky front brakes ?

Can anyone shed any light? I have very squeaky front brakes only when depressing pedal. But i have checked the pads and they are in good condition and around 80%.
Doesnt usually squeak as bad once they have warmed up

Mine stop squeaking after a good hose out with the pressure washer. Tend to squeak more with light usage.

I fully agree with that, mine were unbearable when we got to Alice Springs after crossing the Simpson, eased up after a few days but went crazy again coming into Birdsville after the Madigan line.

Didn't get a lot of use in between, thinking about it.

The pads I've got in certainly don't like dust.

I had two new Defenders from the local dealer (a 98 and a 02), both of which shredded their rear pads to the metal after 7000k. Both events expressed themselves on a Saturday morning, just before noon. Nowra LR conveniently shut its doors so I was 'saved' by local brake and 4wd shops respectively.

Due to that experience I became twitchy at brake noises and issues, and couldn't wait to be told by the local LR shop that I had been driving in too much sand again!

Anyway I have always dealt with squeaky discs and pads (cars motorbikes etc) by lightly scuffing the pad surface as they had usually become polished or slightly glazed up. Use a bit of course sandpaper, or if caught without, rough brickwork! And I put a small chamfer on the edge of the pad material.

Just adding to an existing thread, BUT I NEED HELP.

My front brakes, particularly the left squeal. Front right behaves as it should, occasionally making a noise. I'm running OE pads, and ? after market rotors. Been on now for 15 to 20K. It started with the left had a light rotational squeak, that became a light constant as I went around left corners. I checked for wheel bearing movement and rotors are on tight. lt seems all good there.
The car brakes fine, and no shuddering when doing so.

Over time the squeak has become louder, and is constant now, without much pitch change. If I jack the car and spin the wheel the pads are creating drag. So what the course of action: clean, replace bits, replace all, replace callipers?

Mine was doing the same.Took pads out,cleaned with metho,blew dry,put anti squeal goo on back of pads,fine for about five minutes.Gave up and put up with it and after a few months squeal went away.

as above, clean pads and apply anti-seize to the backs. Check pistons for signs of corrosion also.

While your there, try and 'exercise' the pistons (no not with a bible) and lube with dot4 as sometimes they become sticky which causes the squeak.
