    Whirry sound

    Freelander has developed a whirry sound when turning left. Its possibly coming from right front or underneath.

    Could it be a wheel bearing? I'm just guessing. What should I be looking/listening for? I suppose it could even be tyre scrub if the VC is tightening up?

    Any thoughts?

    Does it do it on all surfaces and how tight are the turns - certainly the VC should start to lock on tight turns and if on a smooth slippy surface the wheel might slip and make a sound but on any other surface the wheel should grip and the VC slip - no sound.

    Is the whirry sound coming from the power steering - they can often make a wirring sound when turning?

    Just put the tyre pressures up from 25psi to 32 - didnt notice the sound on the way home

    Popping out again shortly, will have another good listen. I noticed it most when on tarmac turning left in to side streets, that should give you an idea of tightness. Its definitely different to the steering pump.

    25 psi is too low for onroad driving - I would stick to above 32 psi and see what happens with the whisshing.

    Tyres were low because I was on the beach the other day and hadn't had chance to fully inflate and double check them.

    Noise is still there when turning, SWMBO (Trained Mechanic) says it sounds like a wheel bearing. I should have the tools back mid next week, so will get it in the air and have a better look.

    Right - both front wheels are solid - its not a wheel bearing. Having sat in the passenger seat and listened, it could be coming more from the center of the car (still at the front)

    So I am getting worried now - could it be a diff problem? how could I check it easily?
