    plant mechanic apprenticeship

been trying for the last 6months to get in with railcorp as an apprentice plant mechanic and have been screwed around big time anyway cut it short i didnt get the job after they told me i did i knocked back a few others as i thought i had it, so now im in a bad position most places have done there intake and im left with nothing,

anyone know anywhere around newcastle that is putting on apprentice plant/heavy desiel mechanics

im 22 so will be classed as a adult apprentice not sure if this will be a downfall to me, but i dont see why someone wouldent want me, im dedicated to this i have a trade in building but its not what i want to do
i dont drink smoke or any of those bad habits let me know if you know anywhere i should apply at

    cheers mitch

Insted of trying for the plant mech. go for the heavy vehicle, might be a little bit easery to find and do the plant side as an add on to your heavy vehicle course,

But its a bad time to be looking for a job, digger, and your age is against you as well dont matter how commetted you are, as an adult you get payed more money than a first year stright out of school and thats all the employers look at the bottom line

Good luck have you tried Williamstown RAAF base...Tenx are the civel contractors in the workshop out there I think

than at the end of december they rang and said your name has come up on the eligability list are you still interested in a position, i was so they sent me for blood tests nd medical had them done before christmas the doctor told me they would have the results in 4 days and railcorp is saying they still havent got them spoke to HR yesterday and now she is saying that when i done the test in one section i didnt score high enough for the trade i want so why did they even ring me back and send me for a medical???? old mate that told me i had the job also told me i scored in excess of 90% in all the testing its so messed up and seems like they have had some majior stuffups and trying to come up with lame excuses to cover it u, i have wasted so much of my time and money to get totaly screwed around
and a medical, takes them ages to ring me i had a medical before

    You still there?

I joined the Army in 1977 for three years on the 'yeah, you got the job' rubbish from the Army careers centre.

I wanted to be an Electronics Technician and was 'yeah, no dramas' into it and ended up as a storeman because I failed the Morse Code test, which was, at that time, a MANDITORY pass if you wanted to be a electronics technician.

Problem was, NOBODY told me about this little catch, and I was screwed up every conceivable orifice for the next 3 years!

    I know how you feel!

But, there is no point in stressing about it!

    You will survive and prosper!

    My suggestion?

    Broaden your horizons.

    You are 22?

You are now an adult in the eyes of the education system!

You could start a Degree within a month if you want!

    On the job front?

As you pointed out, adult apprentices (ie. over 21) are treated differently. Now that you are classed as an adult apprentice, you can attract a substantial subsidy from the Federal government as an incentive for someone to employ YOU!

    Good luck!

Try a mob like Aust. Group Training in Stacey St. Bankstown, a lot of Companies will only take on apprentices through Groups like this, check your local DSS office there may be a Group Training mob in your area, good luck, Regards Frank.
