Blast from the Past - Vic Jaeger's SIIB

Many long time LR enthusiasts and particularly those from the LROCV and in the days of the LR Clubs Gymkhanas down at Gundagai will remember Vic Jaeger, (now a life member of the LROCV) and his Series IIB camper.

The vehicle is now in the hands of it's current custodian Julie Thomas, also of the LROCV.

A brief history of the vehicle, (others may have to correct my incomplete or erroneous facts) it was bought new or nearly new from Regent Motors Melbourne by Vic and built into a camper for the annual trip to central Australia. Vic and a couple of mates would leave Melbourne and almost without stopping would arrive in Alice Springs about one day later, despite the corrugated dirt road most of the way from Peterborough SA to Alice Springs.

The original 2.6 litre Rover 6 was soon replaced with a 3 litre Rover saloon car engine. This was later replaced with a 3.5 litre Range Rover V8 and LT95 transmission and I believe it has subsequently turned into an oiler.

Of interest is that Vic made sure that there was sufficient fuel storage to take at least 50 gallons of petrol on board. The reason for this was that in the dim dark days of the 1960's and early 1970's fuel in the remote regions of the country was significantly cheaper if you bought it in drums and pumped it yourself.

Vic was a perfectionist and the vehicle had sensors for everything giving the co-pilot something to keep himself ocupied monitoring diff and gearbox temps and all manner of things.

    Thanks LoneR..

Julie has been promising me images for almost a year now and she only sent this one to me today, had no idea it was copyright. My apologies if I overlooked your post on the vehicle. Do you wish me to delete the thread or the image?

Although that said, I do remember the actual vehicle in better days, in it's heyday in fact and enjoyed Vic's movie of it and one of the Alice Spirings trips when it was shown at the 1974 Gundagai Gymkhana.

    Thanks LoanR... I'll do that

This seems to be the current dash arrangement, although I thought there used to be more gauges.

Interior - in need of a little brighten up, but quite functional.

It's OK anyway Diana ... I took that photo. but Nick, thanks for putting the other ones on anyway! I only just saw all this - am pretty hopeless scrambling around on forums.

It's tidied up inside the camper now. I actually still have the previous dash though this one was altered when the wiring was upgraded. also have lots of the other bits that were replaced.

It now has an Isuzu diesel 3.6 in it and is for sale. I posted the 'available for sale' thing somewhere but with my ability on the site you will find that more easily than me!

The huge history of the dear old Pantech is a big part of its charm and I enjoyed a long yarn with Vic the other day about it.

I've had an offer of $20,000 for it but only verbal at present. I want to sell it before the rego runs out on 14 October. I'd consider any realistic offers ... I want it to go to someone who cares!!!

everything on it works perfectly; even the winch!

    Thinking .... thinking .... thinking?

No one needs four SIIBs, even though this one is registered. Do they?

Couldn't find the ad in Markets section.
