    Electric Brake Controller

I have used three different types and found the Hayman Reese ones to work best on my car. the current model that I have is model 5300 at around $170.

I had Land Rover install it as my car was one of the first ones here in April 2005 and no one was game to play around with a new design.

The first one I had was a Tekonsha Prodigy which I gave away as it passed a 3 volt test voltage down to the brakes which partially activated them every second or so, others have used this controller in later years with no ill efects so I'm told.

Second was the base model Hayman Reese which had a three year warranty, this failed one week out of warranty but Hayman Reese honoured it and now I have the top of the line Hayman Reese with a fifteen year warranty which should see me out.

BTW, Hayman Reese and Tekonsha are the same company, one is the parent of the other, but I forget which is which.

    Hope this helps,

    Ryall

The Tekonsha Prodigy is an excellent unit. We have been using it without any problems on the D3. So easy to set-up and use, with an initial first adjustment being the only adjustment needed. Our first settings have never required any further adjusting, so I consider it hastle free motoring.

Mate, FYI - if your van has more than 1 braked axle, you need to consider an appropriate controller. The cheap ones won’t cut it. The Hayman Reece Guardian can support 2, 4 and 6 braked axles. I have one of these for my tandem van and it is worth the money.

The installer did mention he ran extra capacity wiring from the controller to the van to ensure no power loss through attenuation occurred.
