Hi all,
this may be a blonde question but we can put that down to my inexperience. i am looking at getting an 04 freelander td4 and I was wondering if there is any way to test the HDC and any other electrical systems without a diagnostic tool or hill? Any info much appreciated....
Cheers Baz.

For HDC, put it in 1st and aim downhill, no throttle, let it roll until it starts to brake by itself, drive across uneven sections of road or potholes if you can, the speed should vary with the 'smoothness' of the road.
Can't actually see how it can't work, if the ABS sensors and brake hardware work then the HDC should as well.
Right so I bought the car! All is good so far I think. I have quite a steep driveway so i tested the HDC on it and I think it worked, however, there are some disconcerting sounds coming from the direction of the bonnet when it is operational. Is this normal? It sounds like it could be brake actuators doing their thing but having no experience with freelanders i can't tell if it is normal, any thoughts....
The sounds are quite normal it is the braking system working through the ABS - is all normal. In normal driving on the road you will get the same sounds and feeling when you brake heavily and activate the ABS - it is the ABS pump working and the brakes coming on and off - same system is used in HDC.
When you start your car and have the foot on the da brake pedal you will get the same feeling and sound as the ABS goes through its test function.
Sounds like you have HDC- the green light should have been on on the dash.
