    Unhappy Strange headlight issues

I have a defender 130 98 and the other day one of my headlight lost highbeam. Being a novice I thought but another globe (yes it was a H4). Then the following happened:
    1) No lights came on jiggle the connectors and checked fuses then all lights worked put back the light into the holder and then tested again had high-beam no low beam.
    2) Took out light from hold check connectors, again checked fuses, found that no power to fuses...confused checked light assemble on column...checked out OK. Replace fuses still only had highbeam, also when using the flasher on the column seems all lights come on.

Is there a relay somewhere maybe down with the batteries that controls light / supply power to the fuses as I am not sure why the fuses are not getting power when headlight is selected to low beam..
I not sure where to go from here any help would be appreciated.

If the high beam flasher works but not lights it is probably contacts in the column switch. Probably they are working some of the time which is what is confusing the issue. The standard setup (I think still applies for your model) does not have headlight relays (although these may have been added - could be anywhere) and particularly if higher power bulbs have been fitted, burnt contacts in both the high/low/indicator switch and the main switch are likely.
