Third row seats - New Defender

    G'day all.

I'm new to the forum. We are thinking of getting a new defender with the third row of seats. Could some one please help with some dimensions?

What is the clear distance between the seat frames when boths seats are folded away?
What is the clear distance between the seat frame and the edge of the other seat when one is down and one is up?
And between the two seats when both down?

    Thanks
    Ian

Well the brochure is next to useless, it says the widest measurement - width- with the seats folded is 660 cm & length is 1470 folded & 1100 up.
    Its a start.

Can't give you dimensions in place. I've got a set of third row seats winging their way to me this week or so.

Dimensions of seats out of Defender, courtesy of Brick -
Each seat measures 800x550x350mm folded. The frames measure 500x380x160mm. I have allowed a little to ensure if you find a box it will fit right in rather than be a tight fit that doesn't work for you.

I would estimate by my imperfect weightometer (lifting them) the seats are close to 20kgs each and the frames would be around 4kgs each.
    Cheers

Thanks for the info. You're right the brouchure is useless at giving any info on anything really. Where does it say 660mm between the seat frames when folded up? That dosent sound like much. The dealer has told me there is 300mm between the seats when both down. Is that correct?

    Seats in stowage position:

The distance between the two support corners is 615mm. These push in so you can actually fit something 680mm wide between them.

    Seats in fold down position:

    Seats opened:

The distance is only 220mm between the narrowest point.

If you need any more data let me know as I'm going to be removing these very soon as they take up a lot of space.

    Thanks DM TD5.

I am trying to establish if I can fit my existing fridge in a basic storage box with a slide next to to one rear seat with the other folded up. My current fridge is 480mm so I would need a clear space of 500mm. From your measurments it would seem that there would be somewear between 420 and 450. Not enough. I think the answer is a smaller fridge. Both Engle and Waeco seem to have a few options at 360mm wide so would fit in a box 400mm. This should fit!!!

Ian, I have a 40L Engel, I'll check on the dimensions and the clearance if the vehicle only had one seat in the rear and get back to you on it. Might not be until the weekend though.

Four years later and I'm still working towards this. Although the plans have moved away from a new puma.

Those seats are original land rover that are a factory option. I dont know but suspect that all the necessary fixings are in a five seater, maybe not the seat belt top mounting brackets. You would need to find them second hand or exmoor trim have similar aftermarket options. I guess you could go land rover but I hate to think what that would cost. As an option they were $2000 four years ago.
Then you need engineering to make the seven seats legal.

    Unhappy

Just wondering, have you thought about going the other way and getting one of the side opening things from mulgo that replaces your window and putting the fridge there that way you don't have to worry about rear access or space?
    Found it, gullying door.
