    Defenders 07 onwards

Notwithstanding the well documented problems with the new Defender, what is the feeling amongst the owners of these vehicles in regard to:

    Build quality
    Reliability
    Towing ability
    Overall satisfaction
Would you buy one again given the knowledge you have gained from your current vehicle.

    regards

the only other thing i'd consider is the 3 seater 70 series troop carrier. i'd still probably walk away with the Defender though.

Build quality - Nothing significant in the way of problems and certainly better than the Land Crusier Workmates we have around work.
Reliability - Nothing has gone wrong - see previous answer.
    Towing ability - Fantasic!!!!!!!!!
    Overall satisfaction - Very pleased.
Yes I'd buy one again. The heating and A/C work brilliantly, the seats are very comfortable (but that is always a personal thing). Initially I was annoyed at the low first gearing, but when you tow something it makes it fantastic. The traction control is also very good and is very improved on what I had on the D2.

had a lot of trouble with ours in regards to engine because of water in the fuel.....lot of backwards and forwards to the dealership. In the early stages of ownership the car had in fact been with the dealer more than it had been with us very frustrating.....

are we pleased with it? Absolutely

would we buy it again knowing? in a heart beat

You will find most people that put these cars down..including landy people in this Site don't actually own one. And most apart from 2/3 maybe that have owned a PUMA have been very happy even with the problems
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Hi JohnR - mate I like your rig and the whole set up! The Cape Trip sounds awesome. This is someting I plan to do in the next few years. Just a quick question about the lights on the roof - can you provide some info for me please. Where from? Cost? Do they work as good as they look? Cheers,

This problem has been pretty well covered in this and other LR forums, but has the reason for the Puma's susceptibility to water in the fuel compared with the TD5 been firmly established? My understanding is that the fuel tank breather setup is identical between the two engine types. Is this the case?

    Cheers,

    Lionel

I'm not 100% sure I had heard that tghe puma had no sort of valve with in the goose neck where as the td5 did.....also there had been a case where some where the fuel filler caps had changed with in a year range and this cap being more susceptible to allowing water to be drawn in through it if the breather is blocked.

it is or was situated in the same place as the TD5 I believe BUT ours in particular a long with a few others where not laying flat against the chassis and where hanging directly over the back wheel taking up spray of the wheel in heavy rain

Really!!! As I have quoted before a coalmine here in New Zealand brought 10 v8 series 70 cruisers about 15months ago, (same drivers and conditions as before with hi luxes and defenders which were much more reliable) and 5 have had the engines replaced!!!
JD power survey in the USa, Toyota is down to 4th and plunging,
Threy are no better or worse, the New v8s are just as prone to
bad fuel problems etc as TD4 see any africian forum on this
when a car is bad ,its bad full stop
