It doesn't sound like a '53 to me, but it is free and the guy obviously doesn't have any interest in it so fair enough.![]()

hmmm, Doc needs new springs and some wider wheels and tyres (the pizza cutters on him look scary)
If it is a later model, will the springs fit an 88" series 2?
Springs are interchangeable from 86" Series 1 to end Series 3, but lwb is different from swb (and petrol/diesel/six are different).
If you are planning to remain fairly original with "Doc" you should retain the original tyre size or at least ones that were optional - e.g. 7.50x16 on lwb wheels. Except for the change in overall diameter, you will find little change in handling or performance except for heavier steering by fitting wider tyres. But I would go to radial tyres unless you are being a real stickler for authenticity.
(Larger diameter tyres change your effective gearing and increase ground clearance, which can be a major advantage off road. Increasing the tyre width by itself is not generally an advantage off road except where the road has very narrow ruts or other holes the narrow tyres fall into. On road wider tyres can improve handling by increasing track but this is not likely to be noticeable with a Series Landrover without major changes to the suspension to improve handling. As against this very minor advantage, wider tyres give heavier steering, increased turning circle, and more steering kickback, plus they make your bonnet heavier to lift and harder to see over.)

Doc has 6.00 16 road tyres at the moment.
I'd like the increase gearing that 7.50's would give for highway use.
Is there a difference in offset for the lwb rims? Filling the guards would be nice.
