I don't know if I should say it's a common problem but I've seen quite a few through work. It's usually the cable end that breaks.

Actuator Cable Broke Recently. Almost $400 to repair including replacing the broken trim panel so access could be gained inside the tail gate.
Was told that I was lucky that it hasn't happened before this, fairly common.

Mine was replaced - out of waranty. They managed to do it without destroying the trim. Said that they had done many that way...

2nd that. I've never had to claim a trim along with a latch assy. Maybe an extra 1/2 - 1 hr to get it open but never a trim too.

    Hi Scouse,
Which is cheaper, 1 hr of dealer time, or a new trim?

    Best Wishes,
