    D3 - now we wait.

Just back from 3 weeks leave. Very nice, spent time with family & at our Ravenshoe place.
While away we dropped in on the Townsville dealer, test drove a D3 SE TDV6 with rear air & cooler box. What a nice drive! What a nice 4B! Decided we wanted 1.
Asked David (the salesman who knows a hell of a lot about Land Rovers & D3's) for a Sand one with rear air & headrest DVD. Could not get Sand, the colour is finished. Only white available in Aus with what we wanted. To cut a long story short we managed to find a Silver/ebony 1 being built that could have the things we wanted fitted.
So after paying a hefty deposit we are now waiting till September to take delivery.
While at the dealers we ran into Les Hiddens (the Bush Tucker Man) who sang the D3's praises. Had a nice 10 minute yarn to him.
we have ordered the above with window tint, paint/interior treatment, side steps, roof bars, mud flaps, though they look pretty dinky & fitted rubber floor mats.
Love the car except for the dinky plastic inside door pulls & that the wiper/indicator stalks are the wrong way around.
I am now looking for a bull bar, probably ARB & HID spot lights, probably Piranha.
The snorkel etc we will get latter 'cause we have stretched the budget a bit.
Daughter gets married in September, so the D will be her wedding car, nice first job.

BTW D4 has a price increase & will be hard to get for a while.

I'd leave the spotties for the moment, the D3's HIDs are excellent. Add spotties only if you feel the need after you've got the car.

Congrats on getting a D3. re wedding, had mine detailed for my daughters wedding, detailer sprayed something that removed the colour from the leather, so only water and damp cloth etc.

    Again congratulations,

    Sounds great. Couple of thoughts.

Is is cheaper to purchase the accessories after the fact? I imagine you pay stamp duty, luxury tax etc on the accessories. Just a thought.

Sure they know what they are doing, but certain tints affect the radio reception. Antenna is on the back window. Metallic tints are a problem relating to AM reception I gather...

Maybe a bit of research into the paint treatment? Not sure what does what, but I gather the D3 comes with a paint treatment from factory, not sure I would want to do anything to remove the clear cover that it comes with.

The rubber floor mats are brilliant. Sounds silly, but they are soooo useful. I have them for the back seats as well.

And yes, the headlights are brilliant.

    Enjoy.

I got the dealer to throw in most of the non factory extras except for the side steps (at cost) Tint etc ($500 off) & mats.
These few are being invoiced separately to the car.
I will phone the "Ming Mole" & check out the paint treatment.
I ordered mats for all 3 rows. Have them in the Pathie & they are the best part of the car.
Because we were at the dealers late we saw the lights after dark. Yes, they are good, very good, but out our way there is no such thing as too much light. I really don't want to wear a bullock or roo. I have been there done that & it hurt, bull bar & all.
Piranha seem to be the only HID with good reviews for under a grand, unless you blokes can correct me.

The daughters wedding is a few days after pick up, the car better be ready & it better not need a detail
Thanks to all for your previous advise, it helped with the decision.

Mate I've just upgraded from a 07 Pathy to a D3 also.. very happy with it. I got a 07 TDV6 SE second hand but it had some nice extras (ARB bar/winch/snorkel etc)....

Just got it a week ago.. drove it up to Darwin from Melbourne - so far so good!

Just gotta sell the Pathy now... I owe $35k on it so hoping to get that - its definately in a used condition but still a nice car - got OME suspension and ARB bullbar, Coopers etc too... not sure what its worth - will find out i guess

Don't know if this will be any help, but
We are trading our Pathie on the D3 in Townsville. It is 12/07 build, ex demonstrator, at the time they looked at it just under 10000k on the clock, all services, OE alloy b/bar, rubber mats, roof rails, T/bar, OE spoties, in roof Alpine DVD with 5 RF headphones, side rubbers, steps, alloy door trim, tint, fitted seat covers & dash mat, ST-L diesel 6 speed manual.
The dealer offered us $35000. on that day.
Because we have to wait till September for the (Oh, Yer!) D3 & they don't know how many k or what will happen with the Pathie, I agreed to $30000 trade in on the contract with the proviso that the that will be the minimum but it could go up.
As you say, in most ways the Pathie is OK, just not what we want.

    Congats on the purchase.....
My brother (Les Hiddins) constantly raves about how good his TDV6 SE is compared to my D2a and he should now considering the milage he clocks up each year. Anyway I am more than happy with my D2a for the time being but definately will look at a D4 upgrade in the future.

P.S. - Les is no longer sponsored by LR ( hasn't been for years) so his advice comes from experience not money in his pocket.

    Still waiting!
Getting a little older, but still waiting.
Been looking at extra kit for the D3 while I'm waiting.
Dealer is getting sick of my Emails that I have sent while I'm waiting.
I'll keep you informed of what is going on while I'm waiting!
