    Across Top M Douglas book

G,day all i have been reading "Across The Top" by Malcom Douglas & David Oldmeadow & there are some great photos of his 86" series 1 and a few photos of 107" pick ups. If you havnt read it & like the out doors & early Landys its a great read.

Its also gots me thinking of retracing a few of his trecks in my 88" S1 when its finshed.

I might do that I have just finished "Blast the Bush" by Len Beadell.

Its about the exploration part of Aust's outback when looking for a weapons testing area - Woomera. Photos of Landys and stories to boot.

The documentary DVD is also available, if you are nice I may lend it to you one day!

As for doing the journey, a lot of it could be accomplished in Shonky's Falcon these days.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Yes, but you won't be driving along the tracks Malcolm had access to in the 1960's. Many of them will be out of bounds now e.g., like driving around the base of Ayres rock.

BTW ..I've got a old home movie on DVD , a trip to Ayres rock in 1951 ..in a 1950 Land Rover and a 1948 Austin truck, the truck carried 44 gall. drums of petrol ....it's in colour ..but somewhat fuzzy due to a poor copying process. When they arived at the rock , it was deserted , not a soul in sight. The film is narrated by the cameraman , one of the participants , now in his 90's !

Malcolms book turns up at op shops , along with 'Half Safe' , by Ben Carlin , another great read .

And it looks like a station wagon as well - quite rare in Australia.

That movie has been sent out far and wide I see. It was interesting though.

Mmm, I had a copy of that book somewhere as I pillaged it from dad's collection and read it many years ago. I must find it!
