    Brake cylinder part numbers

Can anybody confirm that Girling front brake cylinders 412650 and 412640 are the equivalent of Land Rover 243743/243744?

The Girling cylinders have come off the front axle of an 88" chassis, and I'm guessing someone in the past has put the front axle off a 109" on the 88", complete with 11" twin leading shoe brakes.

While I'm on the subject of brakes, has anyone put a dual master cylinder/split system onto a Series II? Is this possible, would a servo be required? Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Peter

    yep its possable.

unbolt the SII stuff, bolt on the SIII stuff and then get the chassis pipes remade to suit.

    Can't help with the part numbers I don't have a Rover-Girling book.

Fitting 11" brakes to 88" have been a very common conversion for at least 30 years. You can check if they also swapped the axle assembly by checking the prefix on the axle housing number - it should be the same as your car.

Yes you can fit dual circuit systems to Series 2's we used to do it using PBR MasterVacs off Ford F100's and LC Toranas. These days you can use the late series three MasterVac. The easiest system is to get the pedal box and MasterVac from a late series III 6 cyl or V8. Split the system at the 4 way connection on the chassis rail below the drivers feet. The SIII cylinders should not be metric.

Another interesting brake conversion is to fit 11" front brakes to the rear axles with the sides reversed. This way you have double leading shoes in reverse instead of the single leading shoe of the standard system. Great when you have to back down that oh so steep incline.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
