    Max Disco Rim offset on 2A?

    Anyone have an idea of what the maximum wheel offset is , if fitting a Discovery Rim to a 2A

    You mean the maximum extra offset before scrubbing the guards???

    Depends on tyre size.

    However, I have disco steels on the IIA, with 30mm extra (over stock disco) offset. Fitted with 285/75 (33").

    If the back axle is on the bump stops, they sidewall/sidebiters just rub the top of the guards.

    It depends on which state you're in - they each have their own interpretation on what's 'safe'. In NSW you can't increase the standard track by more than 25mm when fitting alternative wheels, that meaning wheels that were not offered by the manufacturer, or supported by the manufacturer at the time the vehicle was built and complied.

    If you're in NSW, have a look at the NSW RTA website. They have a big list of VSI pdf's which are guidelines to light vehicle modifications stating what's okay and not okay.

    A lot of it is a load of bog in my opinion, but that's me, and not the insurance company who'd be all too pleased to knock back a claim if your vehicle doesn't comply with the regulations....

    The thing about Disco steel rims is that while they are 7" wide rims they have a positive offset (meaning face of the hub is outside the centreline of the rim/tyre). This positive offset makes the track almost the same as when using the standard rims.

    You also have the benefit of knowing that the Series 2a 109 had 2 different offsets on their 5.5" rims. The early type part number 272309 (the one used throughout the Au 109's) and the later type Part number 569690 sometimes called English rims which had almost no offset.

    Then there were the UK MoD LRPV "Pink Panthers" which used the 6.5" forward control rims Part number 543384, which were neutral offset.

    So you shouldn't have any problem with the manufacturers specifications because you ahave lots of options to confuse and bewilder the RTA.

    Indeed,

    My IIA has been through 2 RWC inspections in QLD with the rims and tyres fitted - no issues.

    Standard disco rims give about 20mm extra track over 109" rims.

    And, that would be the standard Australian 272309 rims, where the English 569690's look like the Aussie ones with the rim reversed and almost exactly the same track as with the Disco rims.

    The extra 20mm track width seems to make sense.

    Standard IIA rim offset is 22mm?

    Standard Disco rim offset is 33mm? , therefore 2 x11mm extra = 22mm add to track width.

    Isuzu Bob , did you say that you had 30mm over standard offset Disco rims?

    So that would be add track width of 63mm( 33+30) x2= 126mm , subtract standard offset at 22mm x 2 = 44mm.

    Therefore total extra track width is 126-44=82mm.

    So this is what I should advise my insurer and Vicroads?

    No it was me who said that.

    As Diana pointed out, there were plenty of different rim options, and my IIA is ex-military, so somewhat similar spec to a one-ton (which came with FC rims).

    No idea about vicroads. But in QLD a maximum of +50mm track is allowed (4x4s with solid axles F+R).

    As stated, my IIA has been through 2x (QLD) RWCs, and numerous roadside inspections by police/transport in the 15 years I have owned it.
