    Coote and Jorgensen

Begun in 1928 the company moved to Fairfield in western Sydney after WWII and became the Borg Warner factory, Borg-Warner Australia Ltd. on 24/04/1958, subsequently taken over by BTR Nylex Limited (15/07/1987).
Involved in the supply of automotive and engineering components, some sections now part of Dana / Spicer.

    Here's some history here:

I can enquire of a friend who worked there (at Coote & Jorgensen) if he remembers anything about winches.

    Thanks Bob.
Have you ever seen one on a landrover?
If you talk to your friend, be very interested to hear anything he might know?

I will see him if he has not already headed north for the winter as he lives nearby and see what he remembers.
No, I have never seen one on a Land Rover but would not be surprised.

I believe C&J, (who would later become Borg Warner, and then BTR),made a number of worm gear reduction boxes of different sizes and ratios. It sounds like somebody has used one as the basis for a winch, It is most likely a home-brewed set-up as the vendor on ebay mentioned it was rear mounted on an Ex-mil vehicle.
