    Rattle in dash

    Folks,

Have had my D3 for a week now and have noticed a rattle in the dash. The rattle is in front of the drivers area and appears to be next to the central speaker at the top of the dash. Only happens occasionally. But it is EXTREMELY annoying. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hopefully it's just something simple like a loose harness. Can you push down on or hold anything in particular to make it stop or change?

Yes. When I push down on the area near the speaker. It stops. So loose plastic fitting. But it is part of the top dash if you get my meaning.

It might need the speaker insulating. It's only a small job to R&R it so the dealer should be able to squeeze you in if it's troubling you.

The cover for the speaker pulls off, either the cover is loose or there is something in there not tightened properly.
First thing I would try is giving the grill a whack with the flat of your hand.
If still under warranty should find and fix.

It isn't the actual speaker cover, rather it is the section next to it. The air vent I think? Vibrates and rattles something chronic when it wants to.

Car is just out of warranty. 3 and a half years old.

Difficult to tell really without being there. Do you mean the windscreen vent or the face level vents?

The windscreen vent. The speaker sits inbetween them and the sensor for the auto lights. It is the one on the right nearest the driver making the rattle.

Could be anything. The sound can travel so could be something loose against some duct work.

Thats the only rattle (cover for the central speaker) I've had in over 100,000kms. A little silastic cured my problem.
My D3 has been the most rattle free vehicle I've ever had. My new VW (12 months old) has rattles and squeaks all over the place, and it certainly hasn't had a hard life.
