I've had some problems..........

Hi all,

As said. i've had some big issues after our trip around the bottom from Perth to Sydney via Esperance/ Cape arid area.

Gearbox has started to show signs of age, crunching in to 1st and second, 3rd will follow suit i feel.

But............. the killer blow. Cam belt snapped today doing 110kph on the motorway. Not sure of the damage yet but it wont be good no doubt. I have thought about a rebuild but don't have the space or facilities at the mo. To ad to the pain i think the bottom end is tired, leaking oil from front and rear crank seals even after changing rear seal.

So, the route i want to go down is find a second hand box and engine ideally with low mileage to put in.

Does anyone have one or can they point me in the right direction. I'm in Sydney for a while.

I think it's a 200tdi Disco , maybe a 300tdi . Sorry to hear of your troubles and I hope you can get sorted

Ah yes sorry all, it's a '97 300tdi Disco with a R380 box.

To be honest i thought i would have to get the box reconditioned out here but the cambelt, that had only done 40.000 miles, 70,000 is te service intervals on them so i thought i'd go at least 10,000 before getting scared and changing it. I even bought a cam belt kit with me but it beat me to it

If it is a D1 200 or 300TDi Disco 1, then you might be better looking in the classified ads Trading Post, Cars Used Cars - New Cars - Search New & Used Cars For Sale - carsales.com.au and buying a whole car. It may turn out to be cheaper than the parts and labour.
