Canberra to Canberra via Tom Groggin Tck, McCarthys tck, Deddick Trail

    Hi all,

Took the Jalopy on a "proving" run over the long weekend.......It is better than proven, it is bloody awesome!!

    Friday night left Canberra 9:30pm
Cross the Murray at Tom Groggin at 1:00am
Setup camp just before Tom Groggin Station by 1:30am

    see attachment 1

Sat morning setoff on the Tom groggin track
Moisture overnight and the red clay inclines proved no match for the maxxis bighorns at 20psi!! low range 3rd and diff lock
Up,down,up,down and so on over the erosion mounds then onto the forest highway to the mount hope road turnoff. Down the bownang tck, up the mcarthy trail down to check out the poplars campground (highest public access to the murray) nothing special as far as campgrounds go!!

Back on the forest highways down to barry way intersection. Went looking for the Milky Way tck shown on the Hema map.....through a few gates and some minor tree trimming made it all feel like private property...checked the rooftop map and track shown in totally different position!!!

Back on the main drag to Mckillops Bridge, arriving at campground at 7pm, many fires, not very excited, across the bridge looking for bull flat....see Deddick trail sign...turn right... up, down, up, down erosion mounds looking for enough room to pull up....about 6 ks in find a perfect spot

    (see attachment 2)

Sunday on the Deddick trail....this track is amazing... very steep, very scenic and very challenging in spots...the jalopy climbed the staircase with ease....

Through to Delegate for a burger and air up then back on the road to canberra by 5pm....really bad wheel vibration follows.....check all obvious areas....resume....gets worse....pull into Bombala and check again....find the culprit, loose pan hard rod bolt...tighten then back on the road.....back into the berra at 9:30pm

Awesome weekend, recommend this route to ANYONE on the forum and more than happy to come along for the ride once again. Some of the trails (including the deddick) close between this Thursday and 1st weeekend of November.

Once I work out how to upload video I will post for all....

I have always wanted to do that trip and more.
Time and money always stops me in the end.....not the tracks
Sounds like you had a great time .
