    Question FR2 Roofracks

    Hi - again!

Just wondering what people know about roofracks for the freelander 2. The one I am getting does not have the longways roof rails, but it appears that thule and rola both have bars that fit in the tracks somehow.

I want something to carry skis, surfboard and kayak at different times.

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers, Timmo

I suggest not to get the Rola Racks. See the attached as they only mount to the rear. If you got these you'd have trouble opening the back door when you have kayak etc on the top. The truth is the FL2 has 5 mounting points for bars/racks, 3 at the rear and 2 at the front. Rola were lazy as they didn't want to account for the step in the roof hence you can only mount at the back. Nothing stopping you from mounting one at the front I guess but the bars would not be level.

Thule will fit but they clamp on around the sills from memory and IMO look dorky but it's up to you. I bought a proper 4WD rack that is light and very strong but cost a bit more than the $3-400 they charge for the roof bars. Also bars from Rola and Thule are only rated at 60kg or about 53kg once you account for the bar weight, well below the LR rating of 75kg. LR could not tell me if their bars are rated at 75kg but they likely are.
