    Well, the harvest is underway.

    Been out and about this week, beautiful clear 25 degree winter days and
    not a cloud in the sky.
    The white smoke from the mills is rising around the district.
    The harvestors and trucks are in the paddocks and the cane trains are
    on the move, its a very good and busy time of the year.
    Some of the new bare paddocks are being prepared for next years crops.

    Yeh no, I love the cunnry, she's bonzer, eh.

    Love cutting season I used to live in Strathdickie, between Proserpine and Connonvale. We were up in the mountains and used to look down into the valley at all the cane paddocks being burnt at night - was a great sight. Nothing like waiting for the bus and grabbing a stalk of sugarcane form the field next to the road, strip off the bark and have a suck/chew

    Miss the Whitsundays for the country as much as the islands Brisbane sucks...

    its something i miss, the smell of sugarcane smoke is like a drug to me

    They still were a couple of years ago when I left... don't see why they wouldn't still be. However I don't think they have been burning in the more southern regions for years....
