    Project table for fender help

    Hey all ,
After having a look at "FRONT RUNNERS" equipment for Defenders i was well impressed with their side mount table .. 4x4 Euipment :: Aluminium Side Mounted Table and Basin

And then i was given the price by the smiling assistant $250

So i recon I could build one for that and have enuff left over to fill my tank to be able to go and use it .

So I am after peoples opinions and ideas on a mounting system that rivits/ mounts to thte side of the Fender to hold/lock into place the table .

They had theirs all hidden away [Wing Keel Style] .

I am also looking a getting a bigger roof rack , I have a Jaram unit on ther now but it is one a3/4 unit ..... any ideas who sells a full length expedition type rack please ??

    thanx so much in advance

We had the Front Runner full length rack fitted recently. Nothing to report yet on it as the Defender is still sitting in the shop.

The roof rack also has fancy pants mount kit for the side table that was mentioned. Not cheap but we are lazy.

Sith, I checked out the Front runner link, I love the idea of bolting something onto the side of the vehicle through the rivets. Try doing that to a Prado or Pajero... This is why we own Defenders... My thinking would be to make up the brackets for the side of the vehicle from 2.5mm plate (with a "U" shaped slot) and rivet this back to the 110 body... This would be the female part... the Male part would consist of maybe a 1/4" bolt hanging out the edge of your table... I'd make the whole lot of ALi Plate. If your in Perth, the salvage yard near the Stock Road markets does good deals on ALi Plate of all sizes... and I'd steal the Frontrunners idea of a drop leg to the bottom of the rear tyre... simple but nice...

I reckon make the female part from some "C" section aluminium channel mounted horizontally.
Cut away the slot a bit at the top so you can drop the bolt head in and then slide along/back a bit. That way the head is completely in the slot and wont just pop out when you lean on the table corner.

I have one of these tables for my Defender 110, they are great. The plastic sink is pretty fragile though and cracks easy. When not in use the table just mounts up underneath my Wind Cheetah roof rack out of the way.

As for how the table mounts on the side of the car, I don't currently have any pictures of mine, but can take some pictures of it on the weekend in need. I have found a couple of pictures from their website that show the mounts on the side of the Defender: http://attachments.dolium.com.au/pro...g?r=1247617695 and http://attachments.dolium.com.au/pro...g?r=1247617695. Essentially, aluminium squares are riveted onto the side of the Defender. The aluminium squares have key holes cut out in them and the "pegs" which fit into those key holes are attached to the back of the table. Hope this helps.
