    Where's that bird???

Today a work mate called me up on the uhf as i passed him and asked what sort of bird id hit??? last night i developed a strange squeak that seems to come from the gearbox/transfer??? it only happens going forward in gear. no noise with the clutch in or just free wheeling or in reverse?????? its got me puzzled.
i replaced all oils about 6 weeks ago and theres been no leaks so i don't think low/out of oil is the issue.
    any help appreciated.

will get to the workshop early in the morning and give it all a good grease.
but wouldn't that still make a noise no matter the clutch???

Had the same in my disco the other day. Shaft that enters gearbox was worn, apparently has a cast iron bit that can disintergrate, was told I was lucky I replaced when I did other wise the gear box........

Depends. Some can make a noise while under load, others can be noisy just when slowing down.
The universals would be the first & easiest to check though.

Is it a Td5? If so, it could be the common exhaust manifold leak at the head. Check the rear stud & see if it's still there.

All greased up and no noise now. thanks for the help.
i didn't think the unis would need more grease as they were only done about 2 months ago. but then its in mud and water almost every day lately.

I grease mine after every trip that involves water. Mine's not an every day car though so maybe every week or so might be an idea if you're in water regularly.
