Hi All,

I have bought myself another project this time, its Mongol the 1984 trayback V8 110.

Can someone tell me what the switches on the panel on the RHS of the steering wheel are for. Mine are broken and need replacment. Also could someone take a photo of them for me.

I am also chasing the correct layout for the steering column switches. It appears to have the wipers on the right and the blinkers high-low and horn on the other side. At present there is a toggle switch behind the blinkers which turns the lights on but I don't think this is correct. Maybe someone could take a photo of this for me too.

Lastly does anyone have a copy of the wiring diagram for an early county 110 V8. Its a bottom of the range model and doesnt have options such as cruise control, ABS and coffee machine.

The headlights working from a switch is a pretty standard mod to fix a failing steering column headlight switch. The initial problem is all the headlight current running through the switch. The better fix is put relays into the headlight circuit - Drivesafe on here sells an excellent one - and replace the switch. Installing relays and heavier wiring improves the light output.

Switches on rhs, on my County, one is interior lights, one is hazard.

It is normal on Defenders (much later than yours, I know) to have the indicators/high/low beam/horn controlled from the main LHS column stalk, a separate on/off column switch for parkers/headlights behind it, and wipers/washers controlled by the RHS column stalk.

This could be standard for yours also.

Lionel yes spot on, mine is exactly the same. its just that mine is a little shabby and needs some love. I am going to buy a new dipper switch and headlight switch. My wiper switch is fine. There also seems to be what looks like a fog light switch behind the wiper switch. I don't have that so I will just use a normal driving light switch to power my driving lights.

Yes a common fault with lots of cars Simon. Mongol already has a relay system upgrade on both high and low beam circuits so the switch should be covered from burning out again.

I need to replace the interior light switch and hazard light switches. Does the interior light switch double as a high/low dimmer for the dash lights or are they purely on/off?

Out with the multimeter...
