    Savedfrom Scrappie ,am I nuts?

A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I would like to buy a Land Rover to save it from being crushed. Sight unseen I did. This is what turned up. A 1952 model with a couple of features I have not seen before. The little holder gizmo inside the left door, and the inspection plate on the dash. Has anybody any ideas? There is a lot of khaki paint on everything under the bonnet, but no number on the left engine mt.

    Probably nuts - yes!!

That's a lot of project to take on, so make sure you take lots of pics along the way. When you look back in 2 or 3 (?) years and see where you started you will impress yourself

Going by the brass plates on the firewall, that is an Annand & Thompson build vehicle, you may find the chassis number stamped on the flat top on the main LHS chassis rail between the engine mount and the front cross member, I have seen one on a 1953 where the number was stamped over a length of about 18".

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

nice find mate, as well as the other 3 S1's in the backdrop. I just hope that they too all go to a good home one day!
that numbered oval plate "Inspection of machinery act, Queensland" was it a Gov Vehicle? Machinery Inspector's?

The Qld. Inspector of Machinery tag goes back to the days when all commercial vehicles, including privately owned utes, had to be registered with the Inspector of Machinery and Scaffolding. An inspection was required every so often. All commercial vehicles in Qld. then also had to carry a small piece of signwriting with the owner's name, locality, tare and laden weights. Something like Paddy Malone, Hicktown. Tare 1t8c3q, Gross 2t8c3q. Don't recall when this ceased but it was sometime in the 50's. I think the increase in numbers of motor vehicles, particularly the advent of the Holden ute created a monster that the Dept. concerned was pleased to be quit of.

The records were still in existence 20 years ago as I was able to access the file on my 1928 Dodge ute. They may now have gone to the State Govt. Archives, Runcorn.
