Was just speaking to Shaun at Roverparts today about locker options.
Hes just been offered distribution by KAMS, and mentioned that if he could find 20-30 people interested in them, hed get some in and do them wholesale to get some out there and in use.
They are military spec, as i understand. Electronic, and FAST engaging...(fraction of a second)
I'll get some more details soon, but maybe give shaun a bell on 1300760125 to find out more and register interest if keen.
They sound like they could come in under well $1000 (depending on exchange rate) for a front locker (similar for a rear)
I think there are 2 options, with a dearer one including CV etc upgrades....I only priced the basic kit, shaun could tell you more.
Any interest out there? Sounds like a bargain to me
Diff Locker, new, KAM Diffs, Land Rover Axle, Strengthened Half Shafts, LSD, Santana PS10
Replace front diff?
I would love that.
Before you get too excited, do a search here on KAMS and have a read.
Some people have had some 'issues'.
Yes i'm very interested if they are stronger than a maxi drives , i'm at a point where i'm sick of braking maxi drives and i really don't like the idea of using a jap diff
I would be interested to know which military have been using them for 20 years????
Their website states that the locker was originally developed for the Santana PS10, which was released in 2002. The PS10 runs a much larger rear diff than a rover. Their website says that after that it was developed for the rover diff. They also make a model for suzukis.
I have posted an install thread in the other KAM diffs thread started by Chucaro in the 110 section, in case anyone is interested. It is far more involved to install than other lockers, and I would reccommend people buying them to get firm install quotes beforehand (unless they are installing themself) - As I can see that the extra install cost could easily outweight the few hundred $ difference between the KAM and other options.
i dont lik ehte idear of haveing to cut and reweld the diff
Any locker that fits a RRC, Disco 1/2, 90, of 110 front will fit a Series 3 SWB F+R and a SIII LWB Front. The only difference between a Series 3 (4.7:1) diff and a coiller (3.54:1) diff is the position of the flange which the ring gear bolts to. Maxi-Drive used to make their lockers only with the 3.54 flange position, and sell you a ring gear spacer for $100 or so, if you had a series.
ARB make their lockers with either flange position. IMHO it would be better to buy a coiller locker and use a spacer, that way if you ever sell it you have a wider market.
