    D1 and LT77 gearbox

I let slug boy take my Disco 200TDI out for a try as he is thinking of buying one himself. I don't know what the hell he did but apart from being covered in mud I can't select either 2nd or 4th. i.e. can't select any gear rear of neutral.
    1st, 3rd, 5th and reverse are fine.

Apart from suitable methods to contain my anger, does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?
    Thanks

From memory there is a pin or similar in the shifter mechanism that can fall out.

If you pull the centre console and rubber boot out you will be able to access the shifter where it goes into the box. A bit of a poke and prod around that area coud find the fault.

I just had a look to confirm that the lt77 has bias springs like the R380 - it does: Sounds like the metal tongue of the bias spring holder has come off and jammed behind the stick. It's come up before on other Discos, no big deal.

    problem solved

To my great relief the fix is simple.
A steel tab had broken away and jammed between the gear selector lever and the housing for the reversing light switch that fits on top of the gearbox.

This tab broke away from the bracket that fits over the gear lever shaft and held down by 4 bolts. The think this bracket is part of the mechanism that gives the gear stick feel.
    Cheers
