Brake Lights came on when parked

Sitting by the camp fire at the Gympie muster on the 2nd night - car had not been used for more than 24 hours and the Brake lights came on all by themselves. Pressing the brake pedal caused the dash to light up as if the ignition had been turned on? To cut a long story short the cure was to disconnect the + battery lead. Any ideas? Would hate to end up with a flat battery if the car was unattended overnight!

Do you have an electric caravan brake controller fitted? This is a known problem with earlier Tekonsha Voyager brake controllers.

Tekonsha prodigy, same problem, same cure: "hard boot". Happened only once 4 months ago. Car was in my garage while I was away for for 3 weeks so I don't know how long the lights were on. Had top-up trickle charger on. Lucky.
