    Home Made Double Carden

Double carden joints are very expensive to buy and I was thinking.

Why couldn't you just take two standard driveshaft flanges (the bit on the end of the driveshaft) and just bolt them back to back and put in UJs?

Is this too easy - or have I missed something?

The DC has a centralising joint/bearing which sits inbetween the 2 uni joints. This bearing ensures that the shaft doesn't flail around and maintains equal angles between each uni.

The yolk pictured (has a white insert so the bearing doesn't fall apart) has a pin go into it from the other uni. This is what keeps the shafts aligned.
