    rear transfer case seal

is there any aftermarket or other options for the rear seal transfer case. i am about to replace my 3rd one this year, they sort of hang in-there for a few months, then i lose my hand brake.
there may be some wear on the shaft so maybe a double lipped job or shimming the seal back a bit ???

As well as what Dave said I would also check the output shaft for movement. Maybe the bearing is on the way out or the shaft has some movement or wear where it contacts the centre diff gear. Also make sure you use some seal lubricant or grease on the seal when you install it. I think the seal itself is not the problem so changing brands etc probably wont make any difference............Brian

shaft movement is non existent really, i am assuming that there may be a bit of a grove worn in the shaft after 400K.

so apart from a speedy fix, is there a seal that relocates the lip or could i shim the seal back 2-3 mm?? thats my first thought

    I did mine recently.

I don't have the details on hand, but the one I replaced it with was about 2mm thinner so it contacts the shaft in a different spot..

My output shaft bearing was cactus, noticeable axial play.

just to be sure, I'm talking about my LT95 box.

Sorry, I didn't record and dont remember the seal part number.

I just measured up the seal OD, ID and thickness and went to BSC to get a new one. If I remember rightly, the original seal was 9mm thick and the only one BSC had on the shelf was 7mm.

    Seems to be working ok
