    New Defender

I had an opportunity to get into town today and get a look over a new D130 Wagon in the local dealer's.
    First impressions

    • It is bigger than I thought
    • The wheels are huge
    • The driver's seat is hard up against the door, very little R elbow room
    • I don't know if there is room in the engine bay for anything as large as a compressor for continuous air
    • Not even sure there is room for a glind/twine heater (need another look)
    • The whole engine bay is a complete riddle

The main reason for the check out was to give the Minister of Finance a chance to see what I have been rabbiting on about for the last few years.

It has aircon, so that's a big tick of approval.

There is a 130 Cab Chassis due in a few weeks so we can go back and have a look at that.
    Price quoted $52023 drive away.

    $cary

    cheers

Yes there is no room there for much more...hence the lump in the bonnet.

See if you can find the alternator next time you have a look

I think that was the highest thing on the serpentine belt, on the driver's side of the engine.

    It's a jungle in there.

That would be the AC compressor.

Alas the Alternator is buried here:

At least on the 300 Tdi it was high up but on the other side. I dread the prospect of replacing the alternator on this one...

Wading and dust will kill this bit fairly quickly.

It looks to me that on the Military Spec model in the UK that an additional alternator has been proviided next to the compressor...???

    See the bottom photo:

That could be a second alternator on the military one as the blurb says it is running both 12v & 24v systems? Just a thought.

    Cheers,
