power cable to cargo area inside or out?

I was thinking about running a cable from the battery to the cargo are to power my tyre compressor to save the mess on with opening the bonnet, (I know lazy).

Anyhow... I'm sure loads have done similar for fridges so did you go through the cab/body or under the floor/along the chassis?

Which ever way you went what route does it take?

I went from the battery, along the chassis and back into the boot area via a bung that was already there.

did either of you manage to go through the chassis or did you go along the top/outside?

If you wnt through how did you manage that?

I got my winch looms through my chassis rails, and that was 70mm2 welding cable.

It took ages. I cant even remember how I did it but I did! If there is a loom there already you can pull it back through with a piece of string tied to it and then pull it back through.

If there isnt which there wasnt on mine, I think I must have got a piece of string through first, which then pulled the cable through but it took hours.

Another way is to use some fishing tackle.

In the past I have used a sinker with some 6lb line attached, you can ad a swivel to the line for bonus points.

Park your car on a steep decent insert ball sinker with line attached.

Then use a bent coat hanger to pul the string out of which ever hole you choose to use along the chassis.

You can then bring the sinker through and you have a leader string ready to attached whatever line you like.

Tip; Use a second leader to upgrade the pull strength if you intend on fitting winch cable etc etc.

I did heavy twin cable in split tubing from the main battery zip tied to the top of the chassis rail. Terminated to an anderson plug at the rear for trailer connection and a tap off the back of the anderson using 6mm twin through existing hole to the compressor in the right rear quarter.

thread wires through suitable length of 1" PVC conduit, attach conduit to top/side of chassis rail with worm drive stainless steel screw clamps, and bend conduit where needed using (low!!!) heat gun. Put a plug of silicone RTV at each end to seal it and run wires into rear cabin space through suitable floor bung... also works well for routing 6mm EAS HP hose . Can also run a few "pullers" (nylon thread as mentioned elsewhere) in case you wish to put additional cables through later...
