Guess I need a new voltage regulator???

While trying to get some data for drivesafe, I measured the voltage across my battery at 17V (hand throttle on ~1500 rpm). I dropped the revs back down to idle and it was 12.5V. High idle 13.5V.

Guess it is time for a new voltage regulator or complete new alternator???

check the voltage at the excitation/signal point on the alternator with the engine off first. If its not identical to the voltage at the charge point on the alternator you need to find out why.
