    S1 Club Developments

    Hi All,

I have managed to land the post on the Land Rover Series One Club, committee member and 80" Technical Officer. I have taken over the post from John Smith. John wished to stay on as a second 80" Technical officer which is great as he is a fantastic historian, a great author and has been in the S1 scene since the early 1980's and wishes to remain to be able to answer members questions.

I made it part of my first committee meeting to appoint two Australian Series One Club member Area Representives. One for Queensand and another for Victoria. I will inform you all more on all this as it all happens.

I feel that these posts can work in seamlessly with the existing clubs and this forum, not only from a S1 specialist interest point of view but that I hope that this benefits all Land Rover entusiasts as this grows,

    Thanks

    Mike Bishop

    Hi there

Well done Mike for the appointment as theres a lot of of well devoted Land Rover people in Australia (and great to see them getting representation)

But when I went to school there were more states in Australia other than Victoria and Queensland.

Would it not have been better to just appoint two area representatives and not state and document where they reside.

I am not the person for the job but some may find it a little offending, for example for those Land Rover Enthusists whom may live in SA NT NSW WA etc.......not to be considered?

    Wayne,

Sorry to cause you offence. Just trying to start something positive. Two guys from those states put there hands up. I am certainly looking for more in the other states as well. My wife is from Adelaide and very paitriotic to SA so sorry once again if I offended you,

    hi there Mike

I understand the reasoning behind the post being the promotion of the Land Rover and enthusists (some thing I commend strongly)

And well done for taking on the job, as you are the right person for the job with a huge knowledge on the subject.

I also understand the Land Rover following may be promoted a little stronger in the two selected area for represenation.

And thanks for the PM....and well done

Just to clarify up front, I am in no way offended about there being 2 Australian representatives, one being in the Queens country and the other South of us. In the days of the internet geographical location is almost irrelevant, but knowing what I do about The United Kingdom, I believe that Mike has done an amazing feat in getting us recognised at all.

Congratulations Mike on your new post, you deserve it and sincere thanks for moving things on for us so quickly.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Diana,

    Thanks.

The idea with area reps is to have local runs and intrest days as well as feedback to the main club in what people want, be it parts wise or info wise. For example the Register have just started doing repro early 80" distributor caps. I have been testing one for about 600 miles and they are great. But the two clubs also have to make them affordable to all. So if we can get feedback from the area reps on that weather we offer it to club only, all owners or even outside suppliers. Also what is considered a fair price as the tooling for a item like that wasn't cheap for the Register so should it re coup its costs say over 100, 500 or 1000 caps. 1000 80" caps I bet would be hard to sell in the short term so you can see getting all involved is for the best of S1's anywhere. Hopefully we can have all areas covered soon but it is early days so one step at a time

Just a quick question is the "club" for all series 1s or is it mainly for the early 80" Land Rovers?

    Hi Lost Landy,

The Series One club caters for all Series Ones 1948 to 1958. This page is a good read.

The way the area rep system works in UK and Europe is to have the Area Rep run some local trips and meetings as well as be there for more personalise advice if needs be.

This is done on a very easy going level. For a trip the rep may post something like, 'Taking the S1 to the local swap meet on the 30th April all other S1 owners welcolme'.

It would be great to be able to post events here and have them linked to the local clubs if you want.

The idea is to give it a try and see how it evolves. Where I grew up in Melbourne I used to belong to both UK clubs and the local club and I suppose became the local contact for the UK for people wanting very specific parts or advice.

Now with the forums and world getting smaller and the info we are able to put one line through the S1 forum getting really huge now. We have most of the Rover Service Bulletins for 80" now online for example and will be doing the later S1 ones too.

I feel it would be a shame to see some of you guys back home miss out on what may be great for all S1 owners be it you have a 48 80" or a 58 109" Diesel, so hence why I have started this off.

I will mention more as it happens

    Thanks

    Mike
