Good story.
Truly a Defender of the faith.

Went out on the long weekend to our local 4wd track the powerlines. Had a great day following all sorts of vehicles of varied levels of capability. Came across a group of Landcruisers ,one gxl 200 series looked standard, two 100 series both lifted with muddies, and the new 76 series v8 ute, anyway- we decided to tag along with the group for a while just to see how good these boys were and being a old landcruiser owner myself, i was quiet surprised and a little disappointed how well these guys were going until we came across one part of the track -which sorts a few of the cars out ( we call it bumper city ) because of all the plastic bumpers lying around the place! So, up goes the 200 series 'bang bang crunch'... bottoms out hard, we all cringe at the noise made by the big flag ship, next attempt same again, third attempt same again, until someone comes and spots him back down the hill -only grazing his right rear bumper on the way down. Then he had to do the 'drive of shame' (that being the easier alternative side route) with everyone watching. Next up - the lifted 100 series turbo diesel - he looked the goods - until he bent his side step and popped a few clips on his rear bumper (nothing gaffa tape wouldn't fix) at least he made it up on his third attempt , The petrol V8 100 series was next to have go, he had the least problems making it up, only taking two goes and a little graze and lots of throttle to get there and the finally the mighty turbo V8 ute... standard height with factory lockers has a go... 'BANG SCRAPE CRUNCH'.. rips the number plate off and with lots of ooooohhs and arrrrs from the 10 or 15 strong crowd.
He gives it lots of throttle only to find himself in a worse position, second attempt: lots of wheel spin and it's a 'no go' again. Third and fourth cracks were no go's too and on his fifth attempt he reverses down -gets a good run up and just about rips his diff out but finally gets there.
I have to give it to him I would never do that in my car just to get there but he did , then its the Landrover Defenders time to have a go with all of its small motor, old technology, unreliability, built by tata, standard tyres and substandard driver ability!.... So here i go-
I put it in first low and let the antistall do its thing, I can see all these toyota drivers smiling smugly muttering words to each other, the Defender works it way up the rock face then i come to face the offending rock that causes all the damage. I knew I would only get one chance to avoid panel damage so as soon as the traction control kicks in I nail the throttle, the Defender lifts a wheel and just keeps on going. It makes it look so bloody easy and up she goes [B]FIRST ATTEMPT[B] and as i look towards the toyota owners one of the wives says ****ing hell did you see that, he made it look easy!" all the guys with their mouths open in disbelief and disappointment just looking like a bunch of lolly gagers! As we drive past, my good friend kindly winds down his window and tells them "Straight out of the factory boys, straight out of the factory!" - sorry to have to brag guys but just had to share
PS - the attached pic wasn't from that day, but it is off a different section of that track... but I thought I'd add it anyway as everyone likes pictures!

love the feel good stories
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
If only they would learn how to apply paint to a chassis properly, after 60 yrs or so.
Dont you love it when they kick the arse of those jap things
Same at Ormeau not so long ago, mate of my sons was with us,has a GU 4.2TD ute, front & rear lockers ,& a 2'' lift.He had to use both lockers to get through a bumper section,my D2 ,with a bit of throttle to get the TC working, bashed the rear bumper real hard, but got through.
We didnt have the Puma with us that day,but have since been there & it got through no worries, its stock as well.
They can't say they weren't warned - (you do have that sticker on your truck, don't you!)
Should have gone back down and done it in reverse!
