First of all check that the 2nd gear stop hasn't wound out or has something foreign between it and the selector shaft. There should be a 0.002" or 0.05mm clearance when 2nd gear is selected and located by it's detent.

		I've just return from trip up to Cameron Corner in with my 10 year old son and 40 year old Arthur (the IIA).
Thought someone out there might be interested...
2000 miles (Melbourne->Barham->Wenthworth->Broken Hill->Milparinka->Cameron Corner->Wanaaring->Louth->Cobar->Hillston->Hay->Deniliquin->Bendigo->Torquay->Melbourne) - And couple of other places along the way.
Encountered 3 dust storms :
- The first 60km South of Broken Hill - Visibility got down to 2 meters, no fun
- A couple of hours later the one you might have seen last week on the news that went through Broken Hill - We got into that just as we arrived in to town.
- Another just as bad 3 days layer that was on the road between Tibooburra and Wanaaring, but since hardly anyone lives there it would never have made the news
All the locals reckon these are worst since since the late 60s
Good thing the cabin seals work so well :
Only issue is tghat 2nd gear doesn't work (won't engange or jumps out). Not enough to stop the adventure and had no issues driving home with just the remaining gears.
I'll post some separate questions on the problem and what advice people have out there to fix it.
I hope in years to come my son will remember the trip and keep the faith that all the latest technology and accessories are not a mandatory requirement to outback 'survival'.

thanks for posting, i have just brought a IIA 88".....
Great to see that have just demonstrated that a series vehicle can still do 'proper' trips, and lets face it 2nd gear issue did not stop you, so no need to record it as a breakdown, just 'needs adjusting'. Try no 2nd gear on a Tojo!
This is the country (minus the dust storms) that the Heritage Trip will be doing next year.

It doesn't seem all that long ago that all the pics of Cameron's Corner trips were in vehicles just like Arthur. But I guess it's more than a lifetime to some members of this forum!

Definitly not a 'breakdown'. Overdrive was also playing up, insead of disengaging it would just goe into neutral. But I managed to convince it each time it did it to eventually disengage. (I had Plan B in the toolbox - remove overdrive if it packs it in)
Sad to say didn't see many Landies (of any breed - let alone a series or a even a Defender) on the trip .. more like ... White Land Cruiser ... White Prado .. White Land Cruiser .. White Prado .. Blue Prado .. White Land Curiser ... Silver Patrol .. White Prado ... you get the drift
Had a look at the Heritage Run Website OUTBACK LAND ROVER HERITAGE DRIVE 2010 - The route planned overlaps much of what we just drove. Magnificent country and should be a great trip. Will have to think about joining in.
Although looking at the planned roads for the run, I've been up there twice this year in Arthur and have found that the less major 'tracks' were far better to drive than the major roads. Less worn, less Tojos, less corrugations, often a little bit of sand cover for a nice comfy ride.

						Congrats and well done. I intend doing a similar trip in my 11A when I get it back together (I'm just having a little trouble getting my wife to agree). We did a similar trip in my old 88 rangy three years ago (only saw one other rangy and one disco). We only stopped once150K Nth of Innamincka on the way back from coongie lake.when the ign wire broke off at the coil terminal, (didn't stop us for long). We encountered some dust but nothing like what you had. And a much longer trip two years ago (canning stock route) in my current series one disco. (Saw only one other Disco, unfortunately broken down!). I may be looking for a passenger as wife says she remembers how the old series we had years ago used to ride.
